FBLA fundraiser gets sticky

Her teacher had nearly disappeared in a cocoon of duct tape, but Liberty High School junior Abby Milling wasn’t going to waste what she had.

She was going right for her teacher/advisor’s belly with her duct tape, she said while standing in a line of students waiting eagerly to do the same thing.

Liberty High School business teacher Mr. Dan Hart was duct-taped to the school’s cafeteria wall on Friday to raise money and awareness for the school’s latest club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA.)

Future Business Leaders of America is the premier student business organization in the world. Each year, FBLA helps over 230,000 members prepare for careers in business and business-related fields.

After about three hours, the club, comprised of 30+ high school students, had raised $107 toward future field trips and the stools beneath Mr. Hart’s feet were removed.

Mr. Hart hung suspended for only a second, his face slowly slipping beneath the top of the cocoon, and the lunch room of student and staff onlookers squealed as he fell down from the wall.

No matter how sticky things got, Mr. Hart said that it was worth it.

"The students in FBLA are incredible," he said. "There's always room for more members and we are always looking for creative ways to raise funds for our fun activities, like this one.
