tabs box bottom border

Alumnus Elaine Grossinger Etess will be the sole inductee to the Liberty Central School District Wall of Fame this June. Ms. Etess, a member of the Class of 1945, will join 22 fellow inductees who have selected over the past six years, since the Wall’s inception in 2011.

Ms. Etess will be honored June 24 at 8 a.m. for their various achievements during and after her time at Liberty High School.

Ms. Etess is a graduate of Liberty High School and a key member of the Liberty community and its history. Her family owned and operated the Grossingers Hotel and Country Club, one of the most famous hotels in the country.

She was Executive Vice President and co-owner of Grossingers prior to its sale in 1985. From 1990 until 2014 she was Director of Hospitality at Forest Trace, a resort retirement community in Lauderhill, Florida. She has been President of Elaine G. Etess Associates since 1985.

She was the first woman to be elected an officer of The American Hotel and Lodging Association. She served as President in 1989 and Chairman of the Board in 1990. Elaine has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Russell Sage College and Sullivan County Community College. She was selected as Woman of the Year by the Executive Women of Hospitality in 1991. In 1992 the Penn State Hotel and Restaurant Society honored her as their Executive of the Year.

In addition to her work at the hotel, Elaine was a leading figure in Liberty Central School District’s education system. She served on the Liberty Board of Education for a total of fifteen years. She was also a chairman of the Education Program Committee of the New York State School Boards Association.

The Wall of Fame is located in the lobby of the David E. Panebaker Auditorium at Liberty High School. Additional information about the honorees and the Wall of Fame will be available on www.libertyk12.org.

The Wall of Fame provides a wonderful opportunity to honor and celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of the graduates of the school district and the daughters and sons of our community. The distinguished alumni named to the Wall of Fame represent an extraordinary range of personal and professional achievements. It is our hope that such recognition will inspire current students to their own achievement in school and beyond.

As a school district that continually strives to instill in its students the concepts of achievement and excellence, the Wall’s inductees serve as exceptional role models. Their personal accomplishments, either to their individual fields of endeavor or to the broader community, exemplify what our students may attain through initiative and commitment.
