Middle School Extracurricular Activities

Art Club

The Art Club is open to all students in grades 6-8 who are interested in art, including those who may want to pursue a career in the arts. Art Club meets after school on Tuesdays from 3-4 p.m. and involves the students participating in fun and thought-provoking projects that go above and beyond those done in art classes, such ceramic bowl making, mural painting, crafts, puppet making and different types of painting and sculpture. The projects are designed to hone students’ artistic skills and better prepare them for the lessons they will do in the high school, as well as provide a creative outlet for art class.

Chess Club

Students meet to play chess. Instruction in playing the game is provided and students at all levels of play are invited.

Gay Straight Alliance (GSA)

The Gay Straight Alliance is a open to all middle and high school students who want to work towards an all inclusive school setting. GSA is advised by Ms. Fuentes and meets 3-4 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. Additional meetings are held as needed.

Math Counts

Students meet to work on math problems from their class or special problems provided by the advisor.

National Junior Honor Society

Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students are selected for membership by a majority vote of a five-member faculty council.

Students in grades 6 and 7 are eligible for membership after completion of one full semester attendance and 3rd quarter grades are reported during that school year.  For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 91% or higher. In addition, for the character criterion, a student may not have any school code of conduct policy violations. Those students who meet these criteria are invited to complete a Candidate Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service. For more information, students may see the adviser in the Middle School.

Role Playing Game Club

The tabletop RPG club offers students the opportunity to work together to solve a common goal. Students hone their math, reading comprehension, and public speaking skills, all while having fun!

Ski Club

The club travels to the Holiday Mountain Ski Area for downhill skiing and snowboarding whenever the area has snow.

Yearbook

The students create and organize the middle school yearbook starting in September and ending in early May.
